Your seed phrase

What never to do

Which mistakes empty wallets every day? 4 min

Almost every stolen seed phrase was not hacked. It was typed, photographed or given away. These rules have no exceptions.

Never

  • Never take a photo or screenshot of it.
  • Never store it in the cloud, a notes app, an email or a chat.
  • Never type it into a website, a form or a browser extension.
  • Never give it to anyone: not support, not a friend helping you, not a famous person.
  • Never enter it on a device you do not fully trust.

The one rule that catches every scam

No legitimate company, wallet, exchange or person will ever ask for your seed phrase. Not to verify your account, not to fix a problem, not to give you a reward. Anyone asking for it is trying to steal from you.

The only time you type your seed phrase is when you restore your own wallet, on a device you set up yourself.

What to remember

  • No photos, no cloud, no websites, no sharing.
  • Nobody legitimate ever asks for a seed phrase.
  • Type it only to restore your own wallet.

Quick check
